Heather Heacox

Why Bold Steps Exists

As the President and Founder of Bold Steps, Heather Heacox knows firsthand the challenges teen moms in foster care face because she was one. Navigating adolescence while raising a child, without the safety net most teenagers have, shaped her resilience and fueled her passion for creating a different reality for others. Out of that experience, she founded Bold Steps, a faith-rooted nonprofit dedicated to helping young mothers in foster care move from survival to stability, and ultimately, to thriving.

Professional Background

Heather brings over a decade of experience in youth advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and community development. She has coordinated housing and mentorship programs, built strong community partnerships, and led strategic initiatives that expand access to resources for marginalized youth. Since launching Bold Steps in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, she has overseen its growth from a grassroots idea to an organization with an active mentorship program, partnerships with resource providers, and a vision for future housing solutions for teen parents in foster care.

Recognition & community impact

Heather’s story and vision for Bold Steps were featured in Denver Voyager (July 2025), where she shared her commitment to empowering teen moms with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to break cycles and build independent futures. She is a sought-after speaker on topics including foster care advocacy, faith-based youth support, and building collaborative community networks.

Personal and Community Connection

Heather is a proud mom of three and can often be found on the sidelines or in the stands supporting her kids in their activities — from color guard performances and high school football games to soccer matches. Having had her two oldest children at a young age, she is now cherishing their final years of high school and the milestones that come with them. Watching them experience opportunities she could only dream about at their age sometimes brings tears to her eyes. As a teen mom in foster care, she didn’t have the chance to participate in those experiences, and that reality fuels her passion for ensuring other young parents don’t have to miss out.

Whether she’s cheering on her children or leading a Bold Steps initiative, Heather shows up with the same dedication, heart, and deep belief in the power of support, opportunity, and community.
